Tittle Tattle
with Rebecca Ackroyd, Anika Ahuja, Christian Noelle Charles, Harvey Dimond, Mathew Wayne Parkin, Natsumi Sakamoto, Corin Sworn
Tittle Tattle is a project dedicated to the deconstruction of gossip curated by Understate Projects, thanks to the support of Creative Scotland.
Breaking with its Western patriarchal attribution to a feminine sphere that sees gossip as idle or malicious talk to stigmatise, Titttle Tattle looks at the act of gossiping as a critical tool that can disrupt hegemonic narratives and subvert the conception of truth.
Tittle Tattle is a dialogical platform that will take place 7th of November from 5-7pm at 5 Florence Street, G50YX, Glasgow. A conversation on gossiping will be led by the artists, researchers, and writers Christian Noelle Charles, Harvey Dimond, Mathew Wayne Parkin, Natsumi Sakamoto, Corin Sworn, who will assume the role of “tattlers.” Attempting to situate gossip in the Scottish context and delving into Glasgow’s colonial past, myths, and local legends, the five “tattlers” will present their reflections on gossip, inviting a dialogue with the public.
The set-up of the room is curated by the artist Anika Ahuja, and will function as a safe space and a device for facilitating forms of storytelling.
Within the frame of Tittle Tattle, the artist Rebecca Ackroyd presents “Deep Fried”, a maxi banner placed on the façade of the building at 5 Florence Street, that portrays the speech act of whispering. Creating a connection between the private sphere and the public space, “Drip Feed” shapes an echo of voices that reverberate through Glasgow’s urban tissue.
Tittle Tattle has provided a starting point for research led by Gallia Young on how Understate Projects can improve its accessibility both online and throughout the planning of this event.
